Growing up in the late 16th century Sengoku era of Japan, Shinmen Takezo is shunned by the local villagers as a devil child due to his wild and violent nature. Running away from home with his fellow companion Matahachi Honiden, Takezo joins the Toyotomi army to fight in the Battle of Sekigahara. However, after a crushing defeat, the two friends barely survive and are forced to go their separate ways. After returning to his village to report Matahachi's survival, Takezo is falsely accused of his friend's murder and is mercilessly hunted down. Eventually captured and strung up on a tree, he is saved by a wandering monk named Takuan Soho, who secretly frees him and gives him a new name: Musashi Miyamoto. 'Vagabond' is a breathtaking, highly fictionalized recounting of the life of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. As Musashi travels across Japan to become 'Invincible Under the Sun', he engages in brutal duels, confronts his own inner demons, and slowly learns that true strength lies not in mindless killing, but in spiritual enlightenment and peace.
